When is the campsite open?

The campsite and shepherd’s huts open on May 16th 2025 and close on 25th August 2025.

Do you serve breakfast?

Sadly, we are unable to provide a regular breakfast café for the 2025 season.

We can suggest other lovely local places for breakfasts.

When are pizza nights open?

Pizza nights are closed from Sept to May every year.

Strawfields pop-up pizza nights will be held on Saturday nights only during the school holidays 2025.

Are dogs allowed on site?

Sorry, no dogs (exception made for guide/support dogs) in the camping field or huts.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome in our cottages; Owl Barn, Stables and Hayloft. 

Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times around the grounds. 

Can campervans park at the campsite?

Unfortunately, we can not accept any campervans as we are a car free site.

If you are travelling in a campervan but using a tent to stay in, then keeping the van in the carpark is allowed.  No sleeping in vans overnight, we are a tent pitch campsite only.

Are campfires allowed?

You need to hire a fire pit from Strawfields to have a campfire on site. 

No use of any other fires or fire pits are permitted, sorry you are unable to bring your own fire pit. 

All fires must be extinguished before going to bed or leaving the site.  They must not be left unattended.

Fires must be kept small and in control and a safe distance from your tent. A bucket of water kept next to the fire pit at all times.

No disposable BBQ’s are allowed. We have grill racks available for our firepits. High gas BBQ’s are allowed, providing they are over 50cm off the ground.

Logs, kindling, firelighters are available to buy on site.

Can I drive the car onto the campsite?

Strawfields campsite is car free.  There is a parking area for cars as you enter the campsite. 

There are carts available to transport your bags to the camping pitches.  

It is not far to the pitches, maybe 30m-50m walk across level ground.

Very small camping trailers may fit through the pedestrian gate into the site, but you would have to pull them by hand to the pitch.  No larger trailers can be bought onto the campsite.  Please leave in the car park and transport your tent by cart.

Where can we charge our electric car?

We now have EV charging pods in our yard at the farmhouse.  Please contact Alex by email if you have an electric car and would like more information as these need to be booked in advance of your stay. Extra charges for charging will apply. There are fast charging points at Asda Barnstaple and Tesco in Braunton.

Is there electricity at the campsite?

No, it is an electricity free site.

We do not have any pitches with electric hook-ups.

There is a communal freezer to freeze ice packs and there are 3pin plug sockets and USB charging points for mobile phones in the Café Barn.

Do you take card payments?

We do not have a card reader, but can take payments through your original card used for booking.

Is there a farm shop on-site?

Sorry no farm shop on site but we sell logs, kindling and eco-firelighters.  

There is a local village shop in West Down and Ilfracombe has Tesco  (1.5miles) 

What time can we check in?

Check-in and check-out times:

Cottages, shepherd huts, cabins and glamping tents  Check-in 4pm and check-out 10am

Campsite tent pitches  Check-in  2pm and check-out 11am

Our changeover days are generally on Fridays and Mondays.  

If we arrive earlier can we check in early?

As you can appreciate, Mondays and Fridays are very busy changeover days. We ask you kindly to please keep to all check-in times.  We need all the time between changeovers to get the accommodation and site ready for you.  

Do we have to pay for hot showers?

No.  The showers are hot and free!  

Is there a fridge or freezer for campers to use?

There is a communal freezer for refreezing ice packs.  Please bring your own cool box and ice packs to use. There is no communal fridge.

Do you accept group bookings on the campsite?

Sorry NO group bookings on the campsite, a maximum of two families/friends can book together.  This includes tent pitches and huts. If booking for 2 families, please make it clear when booking to name the family you have booked with.

We have a zero tolerance to group bookings.  Please don’t try to book extra friends in, just find a larger more suitable campsite to stay.  You will be asked to leave the campsite if you book extra pitches or huts for friends.  We are a quiet friendly site, not suitable for groups.  Thank you for your understanding.

Can campers use the trampolines and swings?

The trampolines and swings can only be used with adult supervision.  This is to ensure the safety of all and that the children are supervised.  There are lots to do and spaces to play within the campsite boundary, 4 acres to explore, animals to see, slides, bridges, climbing net and a lovely stream to play in.

Can I bring my own fire pit ?

No.  Only fire pits hired on-site can be used at Strawfields.  You can hire a fire pit for the duration of your stay and logs, kindling and firelighters can be bought at the farmhouse.

How many families can book the cottages?

You can book all three cottages for a group of families or friends.  All together they can sleep 12+1

Owl Barn Sleeps 5 (4 adults max)+1 child futon bed

Stables Sleeps 4

Hayloft Sleeps 4 (2 adults max) and 2 children
